Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs
Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) slow the progression of the disease and are standard therapy for people at risk of joint damage and deformity.
Most patients with rheumatoid arthritis will be treated with a DMARD as a standard therapy option for the duration of their disease, either alone or in combination with another therapy (e.g. a biological therapy). Common examples include methotrexate, hydroxycholoroquine, and leflunomide.
